Join the ULCC Entrepreneur Group on Monday, June 29 for “Let’s do a Kickstarter!”
Please join the Union League Club Entrepreneur Group, chaired by David Lynam, for our next monthly meeting on Monday, June 29th at 6:00 pm, featuring speaker and entrepreneur Kathryn Achenbach.
“Let’s do a Kickstarter!” So said many an entrepreneur with an idea but not enough capital to support it. But what does it really mean to “do a Kickstarter”? Crowdfunding is an exciting development and has become an increasingly popular way to make projects happen, but successfully raising money takes more than announcing your brilliant idea and expecting the pledges to roll in. We’ll talk about a recent success story, Chicago-based fashion label M2057 by Maria Pinto, which in 2013 raised more money than any women’s fashion project in Kickstarter history. We’ll discuss the pros, cons, and challenges of crowdfunding, why so many projects fail, and tips for getting a campaign over the finish line.
Kathryn Achenbach is a freelance writer and editor who has found herself in the trenches of multiple start-up companies, from children’s media to software development to fashion. She has written more than ten books for tweens and teens, and served as Fashion Editor and Contributor to Make It Better Magazine. She is currently Content Director for the fashion label M2057 by Maria Pinto.
