Cook County Clients: One-Time Extension on Property Tax Due Date

This year, and only this year, Cook County residents get a one-month extension on their property tax bills: the first installment 2010 property tax bills have an extended due date of April 1, 2011, one month later than the usual March 1 due date.

The first installment bills are estimated at 55-percent of last year’s tax bill. (The estimate percentage used to be 50-percent, but was raised to 55-percent in a 2009 tax bill.) Because this first installment bills are based on last year’s taxes, these bills will not reflect any changes in your 2010 property taxes due to exemptions, new assessments or appealed assessments, or new tax rates and equalization factors until the second installment tax bills go out this fall.
