About

David Lynam

Lynam & Associates serves as legal counsel to small and midmarket, U.S. and international companies, nonprofit corporations, and entrepreneurs from offices in Chicago and Barrington, Illinois.

Our legal services are comprehensive, but our emphasis is not on who we are, but on what we can do for clients.  We practice  law to serve our clients, to solve their problems, to protect and  defend their assets, and to make their lives and businesses  more secure.

We handle a wide range of negotiation, arbitration, and litigation matters.  Mr. Lynam is admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court, the U.S. Court for the Northern District of Illinois, and the Illinois Supreme Court.

We provide service and advice in connection with the purchase, sale, leasing, development, and syndication of residential, commercial, and industrial real estate. The firm handles  zoning and development projects, construction, and related issues.  Mr. Lynam has  represented Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. in commercial leasing, construction, and zoning matters, the Kemper Companies in real estate financing projects, the Prudential in zoning related matters, McDonald’s Corporation in condemnation and land title disputes, and Citizens for Conservation in land conservation matters. The firm is a agent for Chicago Title Insurance Company, the oldest and largest title insurance provider in the U.S.

We deal with the full spectrum of legal problems of clients in creating, sustaining, and terminating corporations, partnerships, and other forms of business enterprises;  trademark registration, maintenance, protection, and copyright; technology, including defense of internet intellectual property; business financing, and acquisition; advising business and institutional clients in employment law matters, including the design of employee programs and handbooks; and all aspects of insurance.

We  give tax advice on corporate, individual, estate, and partnership matters;  represent individuals and businesses in proceedings before the IRS, including audits, appeals and U.S. Tax Court matters. We prepare various elections and returns for  businesses, estates, individuals and nonprofit organizations for filing with the Internal Revenue Service.  We have been admitted to practice before the U.S. Tax Court since 1978.

The firm is committed to and actively participates in community service by serving on and working with boards of private corporations, nonprofit, and charitable organizations, and by working directly with those organizations, enhancing the firm’s ability to serve its clients and their communities.

It is firm policy to determine fee arrangements at the outset of each matter and to make certain that the arrangement is understood by and satisfactory to the client.  Each client receives a monthly accounting of service, showing a detailed description of work done on the client’s behalf and the time expended.  Hourly rates are set conservatively as the firm is currently seeking to expand.  Clients are not charged for overhead cost items as with many other firms. We charge only for actual out-of-pocket costs we incur on behalf of our clients.  We offer special fee arrangements for clients who have a regular need for legal services, for whom a discounted hourly rate is available.

Our legal services are comprehensive, but our emphasis is not on who we are, but on what we can do for clients.  We practice law to serve our clients, to solve their problems, to protect and defend their assets, and to make their lives and businesses more secure.
